On this Memorial Day, Orange County reported no new deaths attributed to COVID-19, with the total deaths remaining at 131.

However, 133 new cases were reported.

The county report shows 5,469 people tested positive for the virus since testing began in March.

Of the 5,469 confirmed cases, 574 were residents in skilled nursing facilities and 365 were Orange County Jail inmates.

With 24 of 25 hospitals reporting, there were 198 people in Orange County hospitalized and 69 were in intensive care units.

Monday’s report noted another 834 tests conducted in the last day bringing the cumulative testing total to 102,513 in the county of 3.2 million people. Testing rates have increased to 320 tests per 10,000 Orange County residents.

The case rate for Orange County is 17 cases per 10,000 residents. Up from 16 per 10,000 residents Sunday.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 : 27% (36)
  • 75-84: 29% (38)
  • 65-74: 18% (24)
  • 55-64: 12% (16)
  • 45-54: 8% (11)
  • 35-44: 3% (4)
  • 25-34: 2% (2)
  • 18-24: 0%
  • 0-17: 0%

Some 75% of the deaths have been people older than 65.
