THEY SAY THE GOAL IS TO RESUME THE SEASON BY LATE JULY. PLUS, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MARCH, NEW YORK HAS SEEN THE LOWEST NUMBER OF DAILY CORONAVIRUS DEATHS. 84 DEATHS WERE REPORTED FRIDAY, WHICH THE GOVERNOR STILL CALLS A HIDEOUS NUMBER. SOME SUBURBS ARE GETTING READY TO REOPEN ON TUESDAY. THE LATEST NUMBERS OUT OF SOUTH CAROLINA NOW. 248 NEW CASES REPORTED TODAY, AND SIX NEW DEATHS. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE NEW DEATHS REPORTED EACH DAY FOR THE LAST WEEK. YOU SEE ON YOUR SCREEN THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF DEATHS CAME ON THURSDAY. THE LOWEST ON FRIDAY. IT’S MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. IT HAS MANY CHOOSING TO BE OUT AND ABOUT, SOAKING UP SOME SUN, BUT OFFICIALS ARE REMINDING EVERYONE TO SOCIAL DISTANCE. THIS IS A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE MYRTLE BEACH TENTS ARE SPACED OUT. STATE OFFICIALS SAY 1107 NEW CASES OF CORONAVIRUS WERE REPORTED IN THE LAST DAY. THAT BRINGS THE STATE TOTAL TO MORE THAN 22,700 CASES. OFFICIALS SAY JUST OVER 8000 TESTS WERE COMPLETED YESTERDAY. THAT IS DOWN FROM MORE THAN 12,000 THE DAY EARLIER. THEY ALSO REPORTED NINE NEW DEATHS THERE. HERE’S A LOOK AT HOSPITALIZATIONS IN NORTH CAROLINA FOR COVID-19. THAT NUMBER HAS BEEN GOING UP IN THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS. THIS WEEKEND, RESTAURANTS, INCLUDING BREWERIES AND BARS IN NORTH CAROLINA ARE WORKING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SAFELY LET PEOPLE BACK INSIDE. SOME RESTAURANTS HAVE MORE SPACE TO SPREAD OUT, BUT OTHERS AREN’T SO LUCKY. SO CITY OF GREENSBORO OFFICIALS ARE TRYING TO HELP BY ALLOWING THOSE RESTAURANTS TO EXPAND IN PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAYS, THINK SIDEWALKS, PARKING SPOTS, OR EVEN PARTS OF STREETS.>> WE WANT TO BE PROACTIVE AND WORK TO YES. IF RESTAURANTS SAY THIS IS WHAT WE THINK COULD HELP THEM, THEN WE WANT TO RESPOND TO THAT AND SAY LET’S CREATE POLICY AND PROCEDURE TO HELP THEM DO THAT. RENEE: EACH RESTAURANT WILL BE CONSIDERED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS, DEPENDING ON THE AREA AND HOW MUCH SPACE THEY NEED. THE CITY OF GREENSBORO HAS WAIVED ALL PERMITTING FEES. NOW TO GEORGIA, WHERE MORE THAN 42,000 CASES OF COVID-19 HAV BEEN CONFIRMED. THE TOTAL CASE COUNT IS UP BY 650 FROM YESTERDAY’S REPORT. MORE THAN 1800 PEOPLE HAVE DIED. Officials with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 248 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday.State officials say that brings the state total to 9,895 confirmed cases.Six additional deaths were announced, bringing those who have died due to COVID-19 in South Carolina to 425.Forty-nine new cases were reported in the Upstate. Here are the totals by county: Cherokee (1), Greenville (30), Greenwood (3), Oconee (1), Pickens (4) and Spartanburg (10).State officials say as of May 22, 163,818 total tests have been performed in the state.
